Allison jumped into the toy game around 2011, she started a small store called Teich located in the West Village. In 2014 she found a beautiful space down the street and rebranded as Teich Toys & Books and fully dove into the toy world, expanding our selection to include puzzles, art supplies, books, games, stuffed animals and more.
Teich Toys & Books put an emphasis on good design and high quality, and now they carry a much wider selection of brands from around the world.
Teich offers a fun shopping experience for anyone who walks through their doors, regardless of age. Teichs’ focus is on low-tech, interactive toys. They don’t sell toys that require batteries, instead focusing on building toys, imaginative play toys, DIY and science kits, games, brain teasers and puzzles.
Being a NYC based store and space is tight, Teich sells things that will last a long time, to get the most bang for your buck. Their location in the heart of the charming West Village (close to the Whitney Museum and the Highline) means they do get quite a few tourist visitors from all over the world. Teich stocks a fun selection of NYC-related items for visitors to bring back home.
Be sure to stop by because they have a weekly story time where the staff reads from their wonderful assortment of children’s books! Allison mentioned they have in-store events such as author readings, from time to time they even host an incredible local balloon artist.
The Candycab Taxi is by far Teich’s best-selling Candylab product. Allison told us that over at Teich, they are also big fans of the new Candyvans, specifically the Hot Dog, Ice Cream, and Donut Vans. If you were wondering about Allison’s personal favorite, she mentioned that she loves the Pioneer because it reminds her of her childhood.
